Instructions for using ONDILO devices

Article 1: Purpose

These instructions for use during operation and storage are intended to protect the life of the sensors, the battery and, more generally, the life of the product. These instructions must be strictly adhered to or the warranty will be void.

Article 2: In operation

2.1 Conditions of use

  • ONDILO appliances are products that must only be placed and used in a swimming pool or spa in water for private use.
  • ONDILO products are guaranteed to work on pools or spas treated with chlorine, bromine or salt electrolysis, depending on the version of the product purchased.
  • ONDILO devices must never be placed in water without their sensors and/or covers.
  • You are expressly reminded that the use of a copper-based or active oxygen-based treatment may prevent water analyses from being read, and render dosage advice obsolete for an uncertain period of time.
  • The use of stabilisers in chlorine pools can distort the correct measurement of ORP, and ultimately present major risks for water quality.
  • ONDILO devices are sensitive to extreme temperatures. Do not place ONDILO devices near sources of extreme heat or cold. ONDILO devices should be used at temperatures between 10 and 40°C.
  • ONDILO devices are designed for use at altitudes between 0 and 2000m.
  • The application gives dosages or advice for information purposes only. ONDILO cannot be held liablé for the information given. The consumer of the application always remains the sole decision-maker as to the products inserted in their swimming pool or spa, or the management thereof.
  • On-board software and application updates must be installed to guarantee quality of service.
  • The cleanliness of ONDILO units must be checked regularly. When necessary, the unit should be cleaned, paying particular attention to the sealing areas.
  • The top cover and its seal are wearing parts. If they become damaged over time, it is the user's responsibility to replace them to ensure that the product remains watertight.
  • The white central unit of ONDILO equipment (the part containing the electronic board and the battery) must never be opened unless expressly authorised by ONDILO.
  • The top cover must always be removed using the tool provided. The cover must be replaced, checking that the notches are aligned and pushed in completely to ensure a good seal.
  • Probes should only be removed using the probe removal tool supplied with the product.

2.2 Water parameters for correct product operation

When the appliance is first installed and during its use, check regularly that the water parameters are within the ranges defined below.

Water condition Clear, without algae or sediment
pH adjusted between 6.5 and 8 The pH must be maintained between 6.5 and 8.0 to ensure the correct functioning of the measurements and recommendations made by the appliance.
Stabiliser level < 75 ppm For the sensors to work properly, it is recommended that the level of stabiliser (isocyanuric acid) should be less than 75 ppm (mg/l).
Free chlorine levels between 1 and 5 ppm The water should already be chlorinated to between 1 and 5 ppm (mg/l).
TAC of 80 to 150 mg/l The TAC (Titre Alcalimétrie Complet) is the water's buffering capacity. It should be between 80 and 150 mg/l, i.e. between 8 and 15°f.
TH between 10 and 20 °f The TH (Hydrotimetric Title) indicates the hardness of the water, i.e. the content of calcium or magnesium salts dissolved in the water. Water hardness should be between 10 and 20°f, i.e. between 100 and 200ppm.
Water temperature between 10 - 40 °C For the appliance to work properly, particularly the battery, it should be used in water between 10 and 40°C.

2.4 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity

Wi-Fi connectivity

  • ONDILO devices are compatible with Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and IEEE 802.11 b/g/n networks.
  • ONDILO devices are designed for use with WPA/WPA2 password-protected Wi-Fi networks.
  • NOTE: pool enclosures, covers and other obstacles between the device and the Wi-Fi router can considerably reduce the network's range. Pool covers in particular can act as a Faraday cage and block the Wi-Fi signal, preventing ONDILO devices from sending data to the service.
  • ONDILO may not be held responsible for any loss of performance in Wi-Fi transmission due to the environment in which it is used or to uses that may affect network coverage (tarpaulins, blankets, etc.).
  • In the event of temporary loss of the network, the measurements are stored in the device for up to the last 42 hours so that they can be retransmitted automatically when the network is reconnected or when the device is recovered via Bluetooth using the application.
  • A Wi-Fi signal amplifier compatible with ONDILO devices may be required for good connectivity.

Bluetooth connectivity

  • ONDILO devices are compatible with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) available from Bluetooth 4.0.

2.5 Batterie

  • The battery is a wearing part. It is the user's responsibility to follow the instructions for use provided by ONDILO to ensure correct operation and optimise its life.
  • Battery discharge time will depend on the quality of the Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth connection.
    • A Wi-Fi connection with a weak signal will drain the battery faster than a connection with a strong Wi-Fi signal.
    • Similarly, using the Bluetooth connection via the application's remote control will reduce battery life. If the device is used without a Wi-Fi access point (i.e. data is only retrieved via Bluetooth using the application's remote control), battery life will be doubly reduced because the device will still attempt to send data via Wi-Fi.
  • In order to preserve the battery, like any battery-powered electronic device, ONDILO devices must be used at least every 6 months: switched on and put into real-life conditions for at least 24 hours, with data fed back into the application.
  • Prolonged use of the device in water temperatures below 15°C may affect battery performance.
  • It is recommended that the battery in ONDILO devices should maintain a minimum charge level of 20% during operation.
  • ONDILO batteries should be recharged at least once every 6 months, in a clean, dry place.
  • ONDILO devices must never be recharged in water. They must be dried in the open air at room temperature for 12 hours before recharging.
  • During recharging, the reference electrodes of ONDILO sensors must be protected and immersed in a preserving liquid for pH / ORP probes using the black caps and sponges supplied with the product (see section Wintering / sensors).
  • ONDILO devices must be recharged using a micro-USB cable and a compatible charger with the following technical specifications :
    • Output voltage 5V
    • Output current Min 1A / Max 3A
  • Do not leave the ONDILO battery connected to a charger for more than 12 hours.

2.6 Sensors

  • The sensors are wearing parts. It is the user's responsibility to check their condition and maintain them as recommended by ONDILO to ensure correct operation and optimise their service life.
  • The ONDILO sensors must be regenerated the first time they are used or after a prolonged period of non-use. Full instructions for regeneration sensors are available on ondilo.com.
  • A calibration of the ONDILO device sensors must be carried out at least once every 6 months or after a prolonged interruption in use when the device is switched on after sensor regeneration.
  • If one or more probes and their seals become damaged over time, it is the user's responsibility to replace the probes to ensure that the product remains watertight.
  • Die Sensoren müssen regelmäßig auf Sauberkeit überprüft werden, um Ablagerungen zu vermeiden, die eine gute Messwertaufnahme beeinträchtigen könnten.
  • The cleaning ONDILO sensors should be cleaned carefully using mineral water and a soft, lint-free cloth. NOTE: Never wipe or rub the electrode to remove material deposits or excess water - wiping can create static charges that interfere with correct pH measurement.
  • The ONDILO sensors must be protected and immersed in the preserving liquid as indicated in section Winter storage - Sensors

Article 3: In winter or during prolonged periods of inactivity

3.1 Storage conditions

  • ONDILO devices must be removed from the water, cleaned with a soft cloth and left to dry in the open air at room temperature for 12 hours, then switched off before being stored.
  • If the water is going to be out for more than 24 hours, the ‘wintering’ function must be activated in the application.
  • ONDILO equipment should be stored in a clean, dry environment with an average temperature of between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of between 30 and 60%.

3.2 Batterie

  • Before storage, ONDILO devices must be charged to a minimum charge level of 80%.
  • ONDILO devices must be stored with sensors fitted to prevent dust from entering the device.
  • ONDILO batteries should be recharged at least once every 6 months.
  • ONDILO devices must not be left connected to a charger for more than 12 hours.

3.3 Sensors

  • ONDILO sensors should be cleaned regularly following the cleaning instructions available on ondilo.com. NOTE: Never wipe or rub the electrode to remove excess water (wiping can create static charges that interfere with correct pH measurement).
  • Full sensor storage instructions are available on ondilo.com.
  • The reference electrodes (sensor bulb) must always be kept moist. The reference electrodes of ONDILO pH / ORP probes must be stored as follows: immersed in a preserving liquid (KCl solution) using the sponges, and protected using the black caps (sponges and black caps supplied with the product).
  • Black caps and sponges must be clean.
  • Under no circumstances should the probes be stored in any other liquid, especially demineralised water, as this could cause irreparable damage to the probe.
  • The sensors should be stored in a clean, dry environment with an average temperature of between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of between 30 and 60%.
